Groom Shoes

If you are a groom preparing to walk down the aisle to await your bride, this is a great time to look stylish doing so. The proper pair of shoes is key to completing a classic and sharp look that will reflect the importance of the occasion. The last thing you want to do is look back at your wedding photos and wonder “what was I thinking?” when you see what shoes you were wearing.

Although you may yearn to wear your favorite pair of cowboy boots or your most comfortable tennis shoes, this is not the day you want to sacrifice style for comfort.
Grooms have the choice to rent their shoes or to purchase their own. If you purchase your own, be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars to obtain a high-quality, comfortable pair of shoes that will last far beyond your wedding day. Shoes made for both style and comfort can be worn for other special occasions or work-related events as well.

If you purchase a new pair of shoes, make sure to wear them around the house 1-2 weeks before the wedding to break them in well, making sure they are comfortable for you. You’ll also want to make sure the soles aren’t slick. Some recommend scuffing the soles on a rough surface to break up the smooth surface.

Choosing shoes depends on the time of day the wedding is taking place and also the formality of the occasion. For a daytime wedding, a suit is acceptable. Therefore, a nice pair of black business shoes, shined to perfection, would be appropriate. A tuxedo is called for when the wedding takes place late afternoon or evening. Black shoes to match the tuxedo come in patent leather, calfskin or kid leather. Choose a classic look, not a trendy one. Also, choose a style that reflects your personality. For example, maybe you are the type who wears slip-on shoes or someone who wouldn’t think of wearing shoes without laces. Make sure the shoes fit you as a person.
Informal weddings such as beach wedding or a Hawaiian-style wedding would dictate entirely different attire, including shoes. Stylish sandals or slip-on shoes might be appropriate. Or, bare feet might just work if you are standing on the shore of the beach!

So, when looking for shoes for your wedding day, consider the time of day, personality of the groom and the style of wedding and you won’t go wrong in your choice.
