Groom Tuxes: A Balance of Style and
Fit
Groom tuxes must have a
balance of style and fit that is sure to make him look the best he ever
has in his life. Not ever groom chooses to wear a tux, but for those who
do there is the perfect opportunity to bring out your own individual
style and still look dapper there in a tux that fits you to perfection,
with every little detail taken care of as far as appearance goes. Sounds
similar to the bride, right? Well, a wedding day does involve man AND
wife, and while the bride is very much the center of attention at any
wedding, the role of the groom is just as important in the ceremony.
These days, there are so many options to choose from as far as groom’s
tuxes that it takes the idea of a groom’s tux to a whole new level.
Style has changed the idea of a traditional grooms’ tux in so many ways,
that any groom has a whole plethora of options before them as far as
their tux goes. You have so much to choose from these days, from
traditional black and white ‘penguin-style’ tuxes to something more
casual, more 21st century prom, with a dapper vest underneath the jacket
in place of the cummerbund. This look can be pulled off in so many ways
as it is a great way to set off your bride, choosing a contrasting color
with your tux that complements the bridal party, the flowers in the
soul, or just the color of her eyes.
There are small things regarding the appearance of a groom’s tux that
are important to take into account as far as fit and appearance go.
First of all, keeping your collar pressed and neat is the first rule of
making a tux look good. There should not be any gaps in the space
between your collar and shirt and keep all bumps or wrinkles to a bare
minimum as well. As far as your pant legs go, the current style is to
wear pants long and low, but the proper way to wear a tux (and the more
appropriate for a formal wedding ceremony) is to have the pants hang
barely across the laces; the hems should not lay down on the shoes and
cover the laces.
The jacket is the most important part of the tux, and it can really make
or break the style and fit of your tux. An ill fitting jacket can take
you from the height of style to just plain old funny-looking, and that
is the truth. What is of primary importance is the shoulders in the
jacket; your shoulders should not be pulling at them but the shoulder
pads should not hang over the edge of the shoulders either. A tux jacket
can be altered, and so it should fit perfectly to the shoulders and hang
no lower than the beltline, although it should hang a bit over the
backside. There are issues with length pertaining to the sleeves of the
tux jacket as well; the hem of the jacket should be cut right above the
wrist line, leaving a bit of shirt to show through. This is where
stylish cufflinks and contrasting and complementing colors come in,
bringing style to the amazing fit of the groom’s tux.
Another way to add great style to a bridegroom’s tux is to have a fancy,
prominent boutonnière. The best boutonnière to choose is one that
matches the bride’s bouquet in beauty and loveliness, perhaps even being
fashioned from the same theme and the same batch of flowers.
As a groom, you have the opportunity to make yourself a darn-good second
flute; even if the bride does automatically steal the spotlight it is up
to you to make sure that your tux brings out the true gentleman in you,
and makes you look dashing in the process.
