Wedding
Officiants
How To
Choose and What to Look For
Short Guide to Various
Wedding Officiants –
There are so many different wedding officiants to choose from. If you
and your soon to be husband or wife have the same religion you can
easily decide to go with your church and have your wedding ceremony
carried out there.
However, if you do not want a religious ceremony, or
just can’t seem to decide on the best one for you, this article will
help you narrow down your choices. You can find the best one for the two
of you, and that is the most important thing – that both of you will be
happy with the decision.
How to Find the Right Wedding Officiant -
You need to find the officiant that can make the both of you feel
comfortable and at ease. Find someone qualified to be a wedding
officiant that shares the same beliefs that you and your partner do.
This can make so much of a difference compared to someone who does not
have the same beliefs you do. Fortunately, there are many wedding
officiants out there now that know how to best carry out a wedding
ceremony with you and your partner’s input.
There are numerous qualified people who can carry out your wedding vows.
If you choose to have a church wedding, you will most likely have to use
whichever religious figure at the church (priest, rabbi, etc.) to hold
your ceremony.
Here are Some Qualified Wedding Officiants –
· A Judge
· Justice of the Peace
· Mayor
· Governor
· County Clerk
· Notary
· Legally Ordained Minister
If you do not want to have a stranger perform your wedding vows, choose
a good friend or family member. That would be ideal if they hold the
same beliefs as you and your partner and can be the best compliment of
all when you invite them to carry out your wedding vows. Your family
member or friend can become a legally ordained minister for about twelve
dollars at the Universal Life Church, but you will need to check in with
your state’s laws on this.
Make sure you have money set aside in your wedding budget for whoever
will carry out your vows. This can cost anywhere from fifty dollars to
three hundred dollars. You may also want to “tip” your wedding officiant
so keep that in mind too.
What to Do With an Inter-Faith Marriage –
If you and your partner have different religions there are options out
there for you. Of course, if one of you is deeply connected to their
religion, and the other is not you may want to go with the one religion.
However, taking on a religion is a huge step in life. It changes your
way of life, and you will need to think this over thoroughly before
choosing to take on your mate’s religion to get married.
Then there are couples that both are deeply connected to their religions
and desire a religious ceremony. The problem is that they both have
entirely different religions. This can cause some stress. But, do not
worry. There are some solutions to this problem as well. You can each
ask your religious wedding officiants if you could do an interfaith
marriage where the bride would have her wedding officiant representing
her religion and the groom would have hid wedding officiant representing
his religion. This would require both officiants to agree on doing an
interfaith marriage, and some will.
If you can’t find any solutions with the above suggestions you can
choose a wedding officiant that does not hold any value to a specific
religion. This includes justice of the peace, judges, mayors, governors,
clerks, notaries, and legally ordained ministers. Many of these people
will work with the engaged couple to find a solid ground of faith and
beliefs between them in order to provide a wedding ceremony that will
represent both of your beliefs, regardless of religion.
The most important key to finding the right wedding officiant for you
and your partner is finding one that has the same values you do, and can
carry them out beautifully in your wedding ceremony. Find the wedding
officiant that best suits you and your partner so you both will be happy
with the choice.
